Tips To Keep Your HVAC System In Top Working Condition

Keep your filters clean. High-efficiency filters have an electrostatic charge to help attract and capture tiny dust particles and bacteria in the air.
Replacing your filter often is recommended. Generally, every three months, but check it monthly to make sure there are no unusual buildups. If you have pets, hair and dander builds up faster and it is recommended to change your filter(s) monthly.
Keep a minimum of two feet clearance around outside air conditioner and heat pump units.
Remove any debris like leaves, and branches from air conditioners and heat pump units. Be careful not to discharge grass clippings into the outdoor units.
Inspect refrigerant lead lines monthly and replace insulation if missing or damaged.
Make sure the air conditioning or heating pump units are on firm level ground or pads.
On a yearly basis, pour a mixture of bleach and water down the condensate drain to prevent mold and algae from growing, which could ultimately cause your drain to clog.
If you have a humidifier, during the summer turn off the water supply. Turn it back on and replace the wick filter when you plan to turn back on your furnace. On your thermostat, set the humidity between 35% and 40%.
Your home’s HVAC system needs air to flow so avoid closing more than 20% of the airflow registers to avoid placing unnecessary stress on your system.
It is recommended to replace your carbon monoxide detector battery yearly. A monthly battery check is preferred.
